JabbaWokeez

an all male dance group, established in 2003 by Joe Larot, Kevin Brewer and Phil Tayag. In America's Best Dance Crew there are 3 Filipinos 2 Vietnamese I think, and 1 black. They are the first winner in the show ADBC they won $100,000. Before they audition, one of their crew member, Gary "Gee" Kendall died because of pneumonia i think. Their name was from a poem of Lewis Carroll's
Jobberwocky.

The JabbaWokeeZ:
Phil "Swaggerboy" Tayag
Hailing from Sacramento, Phil was one of the JabbaWockeez’s founding members and grew up as a garage dancer. Claiming Michael Jackson (but from the ’80s) as one of his dancing idols, Phil represents for his crew top to bottom in a Broner Woodsman hat, JabbaWockeez tee, Shmack Babylon (Sneaker Cut) denim and Shmack Crowbar sneakers.

He also takes pleasure in singing and playing the guitar, but nothing beats the thrill of the battle. Steady mobbin’ in a Levi’s vest, Undrcrwn Bedstuy Bandit jersey, Shmack Star Buck Cut 101 jeans and classic Puma Clyde shoes with the fat laces, Rainen is dressed for battle, anytime and anywhere.

Chris "Cristyle" Gatdula
Chris has been dancing since he was a kid, but became seriously interested in becoming a B-boy in 1997 and got into hip-hop choreography in 2000, all because of the movie Beat Street (Orion Pictures, 1984). While the hardest move to conquer was the windmill, after Chris perfected it, all the other power moves were easy to do. Infatuated with his JabbaWockeez shirt (“Not just cause it says ‘JabbaWockez,’ but the colors of the shirt are the Filipino flag colors.”), Chris doesn’t mind getting dizzy while in his IM-King “King Me” flannel, Shmack Hatchet shoes, Brixton Stroll hat and Shmack Vicious Shlim fit jeans.

Crew: Jabbawockeez
Age: 26

Last year when I moved to LA.
Are you in school? If so, what is your major?
No, but I just graduated from college -- New Media emphasis (film and video).
Do you have a job? If so, what do you do to pay the bills?
As of now... nope. But I normally work as a dance instructor.
What other talents do you have?
Video editing, snowboarding, graphic design and make the homies laugh at me.
What do you hope to gain from your 'Dance Crew' experience?
Unity.
Who are your own dancing idols?
My crew Jabbawokeez and Full Force. Gary Kendall AKA Yoga AKA The Truth.
What is a source of inspiration for your dancing career?
My source of inspiration is to not fall behind my crew. So I'm just trying to keep up with them. And I also want to make sure I'm on top of my game cause there's a lot of dangers coming up and I ain't trying to get smoked.
Who is your favorite fellow 'Dance Crew' member and why?
I love them all.
Is there anything else that we should know?
I'm a Taurus. I love my family and friends a lot.

Ben "B-Tek" Chung
With his background in “urban freestyle,” Ben wouldn’t say that there was any single move that was hard for him to master (“However, the most challenging aspect of dancing was learning how to isolate and control my body.”) Ben looks “so fresh and so clean” in Vans Skate Mids, Shmack Nailer jeans, Kangol Classic Wool Herringbone Gaffer hat and Supreme sweatshirt, while a Guess watch and vintage Cazal sunglasses accentuate his unique style.

Crew: Jabbawockeez
Age: 26
Hometown: Mission Hills, CA
How and when did your dancing career start?
Towards the end of high school. I thought it looked tight!
Do you have a job? If so, what do you do to pay the bills?
I'm a dancer. I teach dance and do work in the industry.
What other talents do you have?
Fight Night Round 3 on Xbox.
What do you hope to gain from your 'Dance Crew' experience?
Just to show the world what we do and keep doing. We're gonna blow up!
Who are your own dancing idols?
My crew.
What is a source of inspiration for your dancing career?
Music. The mixture of beats, lyrics and rhymes that create a specific feeling that inspires me to move.
Who is your favorite fellow 'Dance Crew' member and why?
My whole crew is nasty. Each member brings a unique flavor to the table without it our body would be incomplete.
Is there anything else that we should know?
I'm a born again Christian. Everything I do, whether it's dancing, working, or just breathing, I do it to glorify my lord and savior Jesus Christ. Peace!

Kevin "Keibee" Brewer
Kevin has been busting dance moves for more than 10 years
and is one of the founding members of the crew. Best known
for “Beat Kune Do” (“It’s not really a style, but a means to unlock our dance potential,” he explains), Keibee was inspired to dance by the “OGs of hip-hop” like Mr. Wiggles, Poppin’ Pete, Ken Swift and Crazy Legs, and also Michael Jackson and Bruce Lee. With his retro lenses from Cazal that were made popular by Run-DMC in the ’80s, Keibee grooves in some Shmack Nailer jeans, Shmack Cliffhanger long sleeve shirt and Shmack Hatchect sneakers. “It’s all about the shoes!”

Crew: Jabbawockeez
Age: 31
Hometown: Sacramento, CA
How and when did your dancing career start?
Approx. 1995

What is a source of inspiration for your dancing career?
God, my family, Bruce Lee and my crew.
Who is your favorite fellow 'Dance Crew' member and why?
This is tough because we each contribute in a way that is necessary to the whole. I honestly can say that all my bros are my favorite.
Is there anything else that we should know?
I like to inspire and to be inspired. Connecting with people is something I enjoy also, because life is fleeting, we should build each other up and fellowship and enjoy one another. I like Mexican food too.

Jeff "Phi" Nguyen
While the hardest dance moves were the power moves (windmills, headspins, airtracks, airflares), Phi perfected his skills and became a member of the crew in ’04 after he was battled into the group. His “urban freestyle” is like a style with no style. There are no boundaries in what you can do in a freestyle. Shmack Doomsday jeans in tandem with UndrCrwn Basketball Net Crew and UndrCrwn Layup sneakers complete the subtle, but effective look.
